LEAD MIDWIFE

LISA BUXMAN, CPM, RM

Lisa has been a licensed midwife since 2009, attending over 500 births since she began her journey into birthwork in 2003. Lisa cares deeply for both the birthing person and the baby and is passionate about protecting the rights that a person has during their birthing experience.

“My intro into birth work started as a Bradley Childbirth Educator in 1986. At that time, I was pregnant with my third child, had two previous natural births and wanted to encourage other pregnant persons to trust their bodies with the natural process of birth. In 2003 I started my apprenticeship with Judith Roberts LM (then) of Boulder.

What an honor to have worked with and learn under this remarkable midwife. I returned to school to finish up required education in pursuit of my CPM RM. I have had several opportunities to work in developing and undeveloped countries, the first being a two-week internship at Belmopan General Hospital, Belmopan Belize in 2004. A one-month internship at Mercy Maternity Center Davao City, Philippines in 2007. In 2008 I worked for two weeks in the Maternity ward at Asua Public Hospital in Asua Dominican Republic. In February 2009 I was thrilled to take the NARM exam and receive my CPM and licensure in Colorado. In 2009-2010 I began working at Healthine Maternity Center, Port Au Prince Haiti. Haiti still and will forever hold my heart. I continue to run a non-profit there (www.aidinaction.org).

I began my private practice in Colorado after returning to the US in 2010, where I have had the honor of assisting 100’s of people birth their babies.

Most recently in 2018 I traveled to Cox’s Bazar Bangladesh sponsored by UNFPA and HOPE Foundation (a Bangladeshi medical non-profit). This opportunity gave me three weeks working in the refugee camp clinic, teaching Helping Babies Breathe and postnatal care to Bangladesh midwives.

Working internationally, I witnessed devastating situations because of the lack of modern obstetrical care. I am keenly aware of how fortunate we are to have modern hospitals available to us, and working jointly with Obstetricians, if needed, I can provide my clients with the safest of care.

I have seven children, four grandchildren, am an avid runner and cyclist. I amguilty of embracing adventure and a good physical challenge.

STUDENT MIDWIFE

JODIA PETERS

My name is Jodia Peters. I’ve been living in Fort Collins since 1992. My Husband Kevin and I have been married for 24 years and we stay busy raising our 9 children. As my children have grown into teens and young adults I enjoy spending time with new and expecting families as they begin their own journeys to parenting.

The process of pregnancy and birth has always interested me.  Watching new moms interact with their babies fascinated me as a child. In kindergarten, when others were saying they wanted to be an astronaut, or fireman, I told the class I wanted to be a mom and have 10 kids!

Though I was young when expecting our first baby, I was hoping to feel everything, see everything and learning if baby was a boy or girl when placed in my arms. Yet, because of emergency circumstances he was safely born by a cesarean. After that rough start we had over a year of breastfeeding success.

I had an amazing VBAC (Vaginal birth after cesarean) just 19 months later with our second baby. The birthing euphoria I felt, made me confident that I could do anything! Looking at my daughter’s face, realizing I was an active part in bringing another human into the world amazed and humbled me. I knew then that I wanted to help other people feel that way.

Through many years of researching information about my personal pregnancies and births I realized I had a lot of wisdom to share with others. I knew how it felt to have many varied birth experiences, and what options are available to birthing people. I have personal experience with medicated and unmedicated births, planned and unplanned cesareans, preterm birth, VBAC and first and second trimester loss.

Since 2017 I have become Certified with widely known organizations such as Stillbirthday as a Bereavement Doula, DONA as a Birth Doula, CAPPA as a Childbirth, Breastfeeding and New Parent Educator, and Spinning Babies as a Parent Educator.

I am a local Chapter Leader for the International Cesarean Awareness Network, also known as ICAN of Loveland.

I served as the Community Outreach Chair for the Northern Colorado Doula Association from 2018-2020

Because of my own experiences and training, my vision is for parents to grow in confidence through their pregnancy and birth of their child. If everything goes as planned or if unexpected situations arise, my goal is for parents to feel supported and loved.

I am attending Mercy in Action school of Midwifery since 2021 and am excited to continue my education to serve Northern Colorado with support through home birth.

I am trilled to be working with Lisa and learning from her as a student midwife.

Outside of the birthing world, I stay active by spending time with my Husband and children, gardening, and hiking with friends. I enjoy running, cooking and volunteering in the community.
